L'évêque de Léon avait été effectivement moine de Saint-Florent de Saumur ; il fut même prieur de Saint-Gondon comme en témoignent plusieurs actes du cartulaire de cette maison. Son origine bretonne est possible, sinon vraisemblable. Gualo Brito, l'auteur du réquisitoire contre les moines, fait mention dans son poème d'un personnage nommé Hugo Diensis : les commentateurs doutent qu'il puisse s'agir du légat Hugues de Die (+ 1106). Par contre, il est également question d'un maître nommé Odo ou Odard, qu'il faut identifier avec Odo ou Odard de Cambrai (+ 1113). Enfin Henry de Huntingdon attribue à un certain Walo versificator l'épithaphe en vers de Guillaume Cliton ( + 1128). Different people hold the name G(u)alo ; the more popular was a scholar in Paris at the beginning of the 12th century who got in trouble with episcopal authorities. The Leon bishop named G(u)alo was originally a monk of Saint-Florent de Saumur and has been at the head of the priory of Saint-Gondon as it's testified by charters. He was possibly of Breton origin. Gualo Brito, author of the Invectio, mentionned a certain Hugo Diensis, may be the Legate Hugues of Die (+ 1106), but it's rather doubtful. No doubt about Odo or Odard, who was a magister in Cambrai (+ 1113).
