CONFERENCE: St Richard and Pilgrimage Today is a three-day conference (11-13 June 2003) based at University College Chichester and jointly arranged by UCC and Chichester Cathedral. The conference, which celebrates the 750th anniversary of the death of St Richard of Chichester, is organized round three themes – historical, theological, and the response of the arts. Contributors include: David Jones, Philippa Hoskin, and Rachel Moriarty (on St Richard – sanctity, politics, and miracle tradition respectively); several speakers on war graves, and shrines marking road traffic deaths; and Stephen Medcalf, Stephen Cox, and Julie Held will talk about 20th century responses to pilgrimage in the arts. The conference will include a commissioned play on the theme of pilgrimage. Further details and booking form from: Professor Paul Foster – [log in to unmask]
