medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture TGD wrote in part: >In the meantime, if you don't read Gallican there are English and >Spanish (Castilian) translations alongside the Gallican text in the, >ahem, liner notes to the following CDs ... >> There's a four-year-old annotated discography here: http://www.ostgardr.org/music/cantigas.html I like the 1972 Waverly Consort recording in the Bach Guild Historical Anthology series from Vanguard, originally issued on vinyl (as you can probably tell from the date) and reissued on CD in 1993. See: http://www.medieval.org/emfaq/cds/van2013.htm The attractive thing about the Waverly production is that although the songs are performed in the original languages, the recording includes narrative English versions of the stories inserted between the musical selections. I doubt it's the most authentic or scholarly performance, but I suspect it's the most accessible to non-experts.
