The article below appeared in teh Toronto Star Sunday March 9th. It describes a local author's fascination with a photographer who took pictures of 'freaks' i.e. dis/abled folks about 100 years ago. The article is less interesting for what is detailed and fascinating for what is left out. The author of the recently published book apparently was fascinated by the photographer but the reality of disabled lives is ignored. Perhaps Toronto folks might wish to point out this discrepancy to the author of the article. Incidentally, read Eli Clare's book, Exile and Pride, Disability, Queerness and Liberation, for a more progressive analysis of "freaks".
