Reader/Professor in Human Geography

The Faculty of the Built Environment seeks to appoint a Reader/Professor in Human Geography as part of its strategy for further developing research in human geography within the School of Geography and Environmental Management and the faculty at large.  This post adds to an expanding group of research leaders in the Faculty of the Built Environment and its various research units.  Research in Geography is on a clear upwards trajectory and the postholder is expected to extend further the quality and scope of research activity in this area of the Faculty's activities.
We expect the post holder to have:
ß Outstanding academic credentials - demonstrated through scholarship, a good publications record at RAE level and strong international network links;
ß Expertise in research and project management - including success in grant applications and bidding for externally funded projects and experience of project management;
ß Leadership skills - including team-working and support for those with less experience of research;
ß Commitment to communicating research through teaching - enhancing learning for those undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
ß Commitment to communicating research findings - to regional, national and international audiences, including academic, policy and practitioner communities.
The Faculty has significant research strengths in the area of environmental management, tourism, sustainable settlements, urban regeneration and governance, spatial planning and property studies. Research in Geography has developed strongly over the past 4 years and a dynamic exists which is to be carried forwards through the next RAE cycle. The Faculty's strategy therefore is to build on the existing strengths and expertise and to develop both the quality and scope of research in Geography in the context of the Faculty as a whole.   In particular, this post is intended to provide research leadership in the area of human geography and to complement the School's established strengths in relation to physical geography and environmental interests.
