It is interesting to see the difference in perceptions between the geography
of the Old and New Testaments. If it was the New Testament lands of
Palestine which were being ripped apart there would be an outcry from the
religious community in the West. Although having said this it does not seem
to apply to the plight of the Palestinian people.

I wonder also is this an illustration of the shallowness of much of what
passes for Western Christianity (prayer breakfasts every morning). People
do not seem to care what is happening in the Old Testament world at all -
despite this being the possible site of the Garden of Eden.

Also interesting is the different versions of God which are being prayed to.
I don't really think the God alluded to by Blair and Bush would approve of
His children (in particular "school bully") wrecking His garden.

Yes, it does seem as if the religious right's position in this is very
much tied up in a martyr complex that is manifested in so many other
things --the media is/ are all liberal controlled, the most persecuted
people in the western world today are white, heterosexual, male
Christians, etc. There is very much a siege mentality, it seems to me,
w/ a lot of these folks --perhaps this is the unintended but logical
outcome of some of the identity politics of the past two decades, where
everyone's "positionality" became seen as just differences. The right
seems to have used the left's discourse about difference to position
itself as just another oppressed group. Any thoughts anyone?
