Hi all, As I just mentioned on the Educational Content SIG list, some of you may remember Tore Hoel, Manager of Norway's new eStandard Project (which aims to become their own CETIS-like organisation) at the EC SIG meeting last week. After that meeting Tore met with myself, Phil Barker, Rowin Cross, Charles Duncan of Intrallect and Gerry Graham of LTScotland, with venue and lunch kindly provided by LTScotland. Of specific interest to this SIG was the project being developed in Norway for a specification for course description metadata. Here's a quote from the report on the meeting: "[The Norwegian eStandard Project] are looking at specifying course description metadata to describe courses and programmes. These can include anything from a private institution's course on hairdressing through to an HE engineering course. It must be able to describe courses, modules etc., so that students can find all the information they need to choose courses. They wish to ensure this metadata specification is not just Norway-specific. This area is related to competencies and material supporting courses. Relationship to LOM important in order to match courses to materials. This part of the project, involving a specification and application demonstrator was starting in one month with ca £40,000. The University of Oslo is managing it; they host a major student management system. Interoperability will be an issue. Various course/programme portals in the UK were mentioned: British Council, UCAS (http://www.ucas.ac.uk/ucc/), LearnDirect Scotland for instance, but no work done yet on metadata spec here. [Gerry Graham] mentioned that the issue was discussed in Vancouver in February. Web site for the Course Description Metada Project is http://www.estandard.no/katalogprosjektet/. (Most of the material in Norwegian, but some links to resources in English - briefs in English will be written on request)." The report from the meeting is on the EC SIG website at: http://www.cetis.ac.uk/groups/20010809144711/FR20030305171909 And Tore's short presentation on the Project is also on the website at: http://www.cetis.ac.uk/groups/20010809144711/FR20030305134456 I'm sure Tore will be happy to answer any questions and would welcome discussion on this list.
