Just a note to let subscribers to this list know that the beta version of
WordStat 4.0 is now available publicly (see below for a short list of
features).
You can now download the beta version of WordStat 4.0 from the following
web page:
http://www.simstat.com/wordstat4beta.htm
Most of the bugs in prior beta versions have been fixed. We now
make this beta version public in order to get more feedback about any
remaining problems as well as suggestions for minor changes or
improvements.
Please note that the new QDA module provides no theory building or
testing tools like those found in other programs. There are also a lot of
quantitative tools built in it (cluster, multidimensional scaling maps,
comparison tests, frequency tables, correspondence analysis, etc.) as
well as inter-coders agreement tools. So if you don't think the
integration of quantitative and qualitative tools is a good idea, then
maybe WordStat is not for you.
Also please note that documentation is still scarce. We are still
working on a new manual and help file. But if you have any problem
running the program, just ask me.
BTW, we will provide free copies to those who will send us the most
useful comments and bug reports. We are also looking for sample
qualitative projects to include as sample files in the final program and
we are willing to give free copies of WordStat in exchange with the
authorization to distribute such files.

We are seeking beta testers for a
new text management and qualitative analysis module for WordStat (version
4.0).
This new program provides common qualitative analysis features such as:
- Storing and editing of documents in Rich Text format (documents may
be edited)
- Intuitive drag and drop assignment of codes to text segments.
- Notes can be assigned to codes and coded segments.
- Support for multicoders projects including computation of
inter-coders agreement.
- Text search and code retrieval using boolean and proximity operators.
- Import and export data and tables to HTML, Excel, MS Access, dBase,
text files, etc.
This new QDA program also offers numerous innovative data analysis
and exploration tools such as:
- Easy comparison of coding by subgroups or numeric variables (or
properties) using numerous visualization tools such as bar charts, line
charts and correspondence analysis plots.
- Exploratory analysis of coding co-occurrence using cluster analysis,
multidimensional scaling concept maps, co-occurrences graphs and tables.
- Clustering and mapping of cases based on coding similarity.
- Ability to perform quantitative (dictionary based) content analysis
on documents or coded segments (for more information on existing
quantitative content analysis features, see
http://www.simstat.com/wordstat.htm )
- Ability to call Simstat statistical software directly from the QDA
module to analyze numerical, nominal or ordinal data in the project.
We are seeking beta testers who could test this new QDA module. We
would like to obtain either specific feedbacks about remaining bugs,
suggestions for changes or new features, general comments about this new
program usefulness, etc. We are also seeking for examples we can
distribute as sample files to our customers.
If you are interested in participating in our beta test program or would
like more information please visit the following web site:
