medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

My vague recollections of the controversy involving John XXII in the
fourteenth century is that the Beatific Vision is not to be granted until
the last judgment.  The Pope wrote a book on the subject and, as I recall,
was accused of heresy because he claimed that the blessed would see God
immediately.
