SOUTHAMPTON INSTITUTE SHORT COURSES AND CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE PROGRAMME SPRING 2003 Wednesday 7th May 2003-01-13 New Perspectives on Furniture Dr Adam Bowett and Dr Robin Jones When science and connoisseurship meet William Kent and the mythology of English Palladianism Colonial Furniture: identification and valuation Adam Bowett is a freelance furniture historian and consultant. He is the author of English Furniture from Charles II to Queen Anne, 1660-1714, and is currently working on his second book, Early Georgian Furniture 1715-1740 . He is an expert on the BBC Antiques Roadshow and a consultant for Tennants, a leading provincial auction house. Robin Jones worked as a valuer/auctioneer for 12 years in London and the provinces. He is currently a Senior Lecturer teaching on the Fine Arts Valuation/Antiques degree programmes and Course Leader of the MA FAV. He has published articles on furniture history in learned journals and contributed to books, most recently the catalogue of European-style, South Asian furniture at the V&A. He has lectured in this country and abroad on his special interest, colonial furniture from the Indian Sub-Continent and Sri Lanka. The day will start at 10am with coffee.
