I contacted a medical defence organisation about 7 years ago when we first
set up our pathway for cardiac chest pain. Their advice was that if the
patient has capacity consent should be obtained and that verbal consent was
all that was required. Since we have been working with this principle using
a pre written section in the pathway which is read out to the patient
discussed with them and signed by the reader. No letters from lawyers. Yet.
