medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Dear List-members, Please forgive my pestering everyone with this question, but I am wondering whether it was ever possible and/or probable to obtain a letter of absolution from excommunication as an act of piety without having first been excommunicated? I have an instance of a letter of absolution being granted without any indication of prior excommunication. I'm wondering if I should assume ipso facto that the people in question were indeed excommunicated? Many thanks in advance, June Mecham [log in to unmask] ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join medieval-religion YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave medieval-religion to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/medieval-religion.html
