We have received a complaint from a library user whose 12 year-old son
recently borrowed a music CD with a warning on the front, advising of
explicit lyrics. We obviously don't issue 18 certificate or PG films to
this age group, but as there is no legislative requirement to refrain from
lending music CD's it isn't something we have encountered. Our initial
reaction is that as with books, we would encourage parents to be proactive
in talking to children about what they can/can't borrow, what they enjoy etc
(he could have legitimately bought it in the High Street), but may need to
discuss the possible ramifications.

I wondered if any other authorities have encountered this problem, and
whether if so they have produced any policies or decisions one way or the
other?

thanks
David
