Dear all,

Following on from the succesful session at the ICAZ conference in Durham last year, the Animal Palaeopathology Working Group are holding a conference at the Slovak Agricultural University, Congress center (Nitra, Slovakia) between the 23rd and 24th September 2004.

The scientific program is as follows:

1. lectures on normal anatomy, histology, and the physiology of the animal skeletal system
2. lectures on pathological anatomy, histology, and the physiology of the animal skeletal system
3. presentations of oral papers and posters focused on palaeopathological finds of various provenance
4. information on palaeopathological projects
5. discussion

The goal of this conference is to bring together advanced scholars and novices interested in animal palaeopathology and provide a forum for the interchange of related knowledge. As a starting point lectures on normal anatomy, histology and physiology of the animal skeletal system will be provided, followed by lectures focused on the theory of pathological alterations of bones on both a microscopic and macroscopic level. In addition to the theoretical part of the conference, both oral and poster presentations will be organised which include information about current projects dealing with palaeopathology. A discussion will be the final part of the meeting and will include a debate - which began at the ICAZ meeting last year - about the development of a recording methodology for animal palaeopathology.

If anyone would like to participate or attend the conference, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Contact us at [log in to unmask]
