Remember that replies go to the entire list ******************************************* Many thanks James. I'm interested in your emphasis on online support. We have numerous campuses spread across the south east and so distributed staff models of support are expensive. How have the staff in the consortium reacted to a primarily online support service? We offer lots of online support but take up is poor which is probably because we have these seconded staff available for each campus. However, the funding for this model runs out at the end of this year and so we're having to face planning new models that have no funding behind them which might come as a shock to our teaching staff!! There are also support networks in each college. Most of the support we provide is either online through our website www.westerncc.ac.uk and through are shared VLE. We also provide and deliver a range of training sessions. We are in the process of expanding a section on our website on how to use the VLE with students. Currently we have 5 seconded members of academic staff who act as first line of support to teaching staff and provide a link between teaching staff and our central learning & teaching and learning technology sections. As part of our review it would clearly be useful for us to see what other models are in use out there. So, if you can spare the time, could you reply and briefly describe the models used in your institutions? Alternatively, if this has already been documented elsewhere then please let me know where and I'll refer to that information.
