* Apologies if you receive this more than once * COPING WITH COPYRIGHT: Identifying and Managing Copyright Issues in a Digital Environment EDINBURGH Wolfson Technology Resource Centre, Ground Floor, Main Library, Edinburgh University, George Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9LJ. 20th March 2003 Presenter: Laurence W. Bebbington, Law Librarian and Copyright Officer, Information Services, The University of Nottingham Copyright is ubiquitous. It subsists in diverse works - literary works, photographs, moving images, audio works etc. that information professional confront on a daily basis. Information and communications technologies facilitate the dissemination, integration and exploitation of copyright works in supporting the activities of many organisations. Intranets, virtual or managed learning environments, email, the Internet etc. all shape the use and exploitation of copyright works. However, works protected by copyright must be used strictly in conformity with the law of copyright - which can be ambiguous and which has undergone important recent changes. This course seeks to raise awareness of copyright issues that are most relevant in a digital environment. It does not seek to provide legal advice on particular problems. Rather it aims to equip information professionals with a knowledge of the major issues confronting them in coping with copyright in a digital world.
