Please contact Austin Williams for further details, as below.

This is an invite to the Future Visions: Future Cities conference. It's quite an ambitious project exploring what our future-vision is today - a period when the future is viewed with some trepidation. Sessions include 'Dan Dare or Dan Daren't' and 'To Boldly Go...'
The event is at the LSE on Saturday, December 6th 2003. The doors open at 09:30am with a free drinks' reception in the evening.

Have a look at http://www.transportresearch.org.uk/FutureCities.htm for fuller details. Tickets 12UKP

Speakers include: Jeremy Newton (chief executive, NESTA); David Ashford (Bristol Spaceplanes); Sean Topham (author 'Where's My Space Age'); Dr Henry J McCracken (Astronome Adjoint, Observatoire de Paris); Laurie Taylor (broadcaster); Jonathan Glancey (Guardian architectural correspondent); Miranda Sawyer (BBC Newsnight Review); Claire Fox (Institute of Ideas/Moral Maze); Penny Lewis (Prospect); Dea Birkett (Guardian); Tom Heap (BBC Rural Affairs correspondent); Martin Wright (editor-in-chief, Green Futures) and many, many others.

It's a great opportunity for scientific intervention in debates critiquing the precautionary principle, risk aversion and technological solutions amongst other things.

If you can pass the word on about this conference, please do, as I am hoping to get an audience as varied and intelligent as the platform speakers.

  Have you already sent out your general e-mail to this list:

  E-mail Address(es):
    [log in to unmask]

  It's for professional science communicators, but it goes out to a pretty mixed bunch of 200 - odd people. All you have to do is bung that e-mail address in your "to" box, as far as I know.
  cheers
  Timandra

      Here it is - a bit long but you can cut as tou wish.
      I have a delicious colour illustration of a city of the future from a 1930's children's book - any chance of getting it turned into a format that can be shown at the opening session??
