A consultancy role is being advertised by NESTA, the
Scottish Executive and Careers Scotland. The closing
date for applications is Tuesday 14th October.

Background
The Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED) is
working with Careers Scotland and the National
Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA)
to launch and deliver a Small Grants Scheme. The
scheme aims to improve children’s attainment in
science and stimulate their enthusiasm for science
across the transition from primary to secondary
school. Schools may apply collectively as a school
cluster group or a single school may apply on behalf
of that school cluster group.

Your role
You will be a key individual in delivering and
developing the scheme, using the approach and values
of NESTA’s Learning Programme to encourage fresh ideas
that will challenge and inspire in this difficult
area. You will aim to use the experiences gained by
NESTA to enable the SEED scheme to reach its full
potential. Initially, you will spend time learning
about NESTA and the Small Grants Scheme. Then you will
liaise with staff from the schools that would like to
apply to the scheme, helping them to shape their ideas
and structure their application. Once the funding
decisions have been made at the beginning of the
Spring Term, you will work with the projects to help
them reach their full potential.

Your role will start at the beginning of November 2003
and finish at the end of April 2004. You will spend an
average of two days per week on this work, although it
is anticipated that you will spend more time on it at
the beginning, and less time during the school
holidays. The fee for this work will be £17,000,
payable in monthly instalments, in arrears, and on
receipt of an invoice.

You will be able to start work on this project
immediately (i.e. the beginning of November).

The interviews will be held on the 30th or 31st
October 2003.
