Why "reply off list?"  Since this is a discussion group, we should expect
that our replies should be of value to all the people on this list that
might be interested in the topic (or disagree with our posts).

Since you are in the US, one thing you could do is  join the discussion
groups run by the National Science Writers Association (NASW).  They have
several, very active lists and their members cover the whole gamut of
science writing--journalists, PR, writers for the medical profession, all
kinds of freelancers, scientific editors, textbook writers, radio
journalists, etc.  You don't have to be a member of NASW to join.
