heck!!! -----Original Message----- From: Fiona Duggan [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 09 June 2003 13:56 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Self plagiarism Reading a report of research on Polish and American students' attitudes towards cheating this morning, the similarity of the text with another article reporting the attitudes of Russian and American students was striking. Digging out the second article from the pile gathering on my desk revealed not only that two of the authors of both articles were in fact the same but also the conclusions of each study were almost identical save for substitution of the appropriate nationality in the report. More disturbing however was the discovery that each study was based upon the same sample of American students although this was never indicated in the later report. It is surely a bad show when authors researching students' towards cheating are not themselves beyond failing to attribute their sources, or am I being too harsh?
