dear participants,

i would like to pursue a higher degree of education in design, but i am currently pretty lost with my current degree and the options the german educational system has to offer.

i obtained an second class ba(hons) from saint martins school of art & design in london in 1991.
most parts of my professional live i spend with pixelpark and metadesign here in berlin, leading the corporate interface design and new media team.

currently, taking the current depression in berlin into account, i would rather spend my time focussing on some theoretical issues about media-design in general and specifically to research about the social impact of the design of collaboration tools and social software.
even more specific i would love to research how the interface design of such tools affects or triggers specific social groups and interaction types.
from what i learned during my professional career the design of such tools is still pretty much guess-work with some human factors or ethnologists involved, if it comes to big bucks projects.
but since there is no generic set of tools: user types, interaction types goal-definition-scenarios available that would either ease the development and on the other hand allow a comparison of the results, i would love to spend my time researching this topic.

but... and here it is: i do not know where, whom with and formally how. i might think a design phd would offer the right framework for me, but i am not even sure about this.

if there is anybody on this list, who could help me in any way, i would really appreciate the effort.

sincerely
peter kubin
