Staff Position in Experimental Chemical Kinetics/Dynamics

Chemical Dynamics Program
Chemistry Division
Argonne National Laboratory

The Chemical Dynamics Program in the Chemistry Division of
Argonne National Laboratory on the outskirts of Chicago,
Illinois, invites applications for a full-time staff
position in experimental chemical kinetics/dynamics, with an
expected start date on or before October, 2003. The
Chemical Dynamics Program has a scientific focus on basic
research in combustion. Candidates in any experimental area
of chemical kinetics/dynamics germane to this focus are
encouraged to apply. Consideration will also be given to
suitable candidates who have additional interests in other
areas of research such as catalysis (inorganic or
biological), nanoscience, or advanced X-ray techniques.

Hiring at the rank of assistant chemist or chemist is
anticipated but candidates for the higher rank of senior
chemist will also be considered. Applicants must have a
Ph.D. degree, be qualified to build and represent a strong
research program, and have an inclination to collaborate
with other group members to achieve joint scientific goals.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Chemical Dynamics Program currently employs nine staff
members with a broad complement of flow tube, shock tube,
photoionization, and photodissociation facilities. X-ray
diffraction, scattering and spectroscopy facilities at the
Advance Photon Source at Argonne are also available to the
group. The Chemical Dynamics Program is well known for
experimental/theoretical synergism, and the expertise of the
group is comparably split between these two disciplines.
Thus, extensive computational facilities are available to
model experimental results. Information regarding the
interests of the Chemical Dynamics Program can be found on
the web at http://chemistry.anl.gov/chem-dyn/.

The Chemical Dynamics program is part of a Chemistry
Division with more than 50 staff scientists. The division
is one of several dozen divisions that span all aspects of
science and engineering at Argonne National Laboratory. The
Laboratory is largely funded by the Department of Energy and
managed under contract by the University of Chicago.
Argonne National Laboratory is an equal opportunity
employer. More information on Argonne National Laboratory
can be found at http://www.anl.gov/.

Applicants should submit a detailed CV including a full list
of publications, a statement of research experience and
interests, and the names of at least three references. To
ensure full consideration, please send your resume by May 1,
2003 to: Susan Walker, reference CHM 304825-9 via e-email
