It had to happen - this new book has just been released in the UK Title:- Our Story 77 Hours Underground, Author:- The Queecreek Miners, Specification:- Hardback, 176pp, 13 Black and White Photos and a sketch plan. Details: - On 11 September 2001 nine Pennsylvanian Coal Miners were trapped underground for 77 Hours. They were trapped as a result of an inrush of water which burst through one of the walls from an adjacent mine working. The miners became aware of the problem and escaped to higher ground to avoid the water but then with no exit. They were rescued by use of a borehole and rescue capsule. Members may recall the debate when it was proclaimed as the first ever underground rescue by this method which we all know was not the case. Regardless of the debate the Miners give a personal recount of their own stories and perspectives of what happened. It is a captivating story and makes very good reading and at least we know it has a happy ending.
