Fragments of Mine and Mill in Wales, Alun John Richards Quarto p/b 128pp Colour, and B&W photos. I have read and used Aluns books on slate mines for many years and when I first heard about this title I figured it would be one of the usual photo books with one full of arty photos. Well I was wrong this is a well constructed, well written book full of good photography of industrial remains that are fast disappearing. This includes surface and underground remains. As you would expect there is a Slate bias but Aluns background is that of an Industrial Archaeologist and he feature Metal Mining and Coal just as much. Throughout there photos of artefacts I too have visited and unlike Alun failed to record a lot of which are now lost forever, he has also recorded lot of interesting things that a casual observer may take for granted. As I said at the beginning there is more to this book it there is a very informative text and throughout there is a strong evocative message. See it and record it before it is lost forever. Alun at least has ensured that some of his precious photographic records will last for a long time to come £9.50+ £1.00 P&P available from myself
