Ecton copper mine pumped by a 33ftx6ft waterwheel from 1823. It worked to a
depth in excess of 600 ft until c. 1856. There were probably 3 lifts, maybe
4. It replaced a water balance engine where water filling a large tub lifted
the pump rod. In fact there were two of these, one for the pumps the other
one for haulage, both working by the 1780s. Does anyone know of others other
than Wanlockhead?
