The revised MIDIRS Informed choice initiative which includes a leaflet for women and for health professionals as well as further on-line support, is due to be launched at the RCM conference. The existing leaflet on epidural has been revised but, having had quite a lot to do with this particular leaflet I feel there is currently no model for evidence that pulls together the miriad of studies that have taken place since the last Cochrane review. In addition the whole area of combined spinal epidurals plus numerous studies that test out ever changing dosages of anaesthetic and opiates means that there is a great need for dialogue and discussion about 'best'/good' practice in this area, so goodluck !

Our obstetric anaesthetists have a booklet on analgesia in labour, which includes epidurals, (I don't think it gives a particularly balanced view, but I will send you a copy.)

All women with an epidural  have continuous EFM and are permanently hooked
up to a dinamap as well
