The Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health offers programs from undergraduate level through to higher research degrees. Northern Sydney Health is one of the largest Area Health Services in New South Wales encompassing major teaching hospitals, centres of excellence in a range of specialty and super-specialty tertiary services provided on a state-wide basis, research and teaching facilities and services and community health facilities and services. The University of Technology, Sydney, and Northern Sydney Health invites applications for this senior appointment.
This position provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate academic leadership at the clinical interface in midwifery. As Professor, you will be a member of the University attached to the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health, but the primary operating base will be Hornsby Hospital within Northern Sydney Health. Research assistance and clerical support will be provided.
You will be an experienced midwife with a strong clinical academic and research background and proven commitment to the discipline of Midwifery. You will play a leadership role in the development of exemplary midwifery practice, teach in relevant courses, and initiate and consolidate research endeavours related to clinical practice. Additional responsibilities will include limited supervision of higher degree students and liaison with academic and clinical colleagues.
You will be a person of vision with a high level of credibility within midwifery. You will have the ability to establish and lead research and practice development teams in midwifery. You will be expected to initiate and support linkages and interaction between Northern Sydney Health and the University of Technology, Sydney.
To apply, you must be eligible for registration with the NSW Nurses Registration Board as a certified midwife and possess:
- Completion or near completion of a doctorate in nursing/midwifery or related discipline or equivalent;
- Extensive clinical experience in the appropriate field and a record of innovative practice development in midwifery;
- Proven effective teaching and organisation skills in higher education;
- A strong midwifery research profile and, desirably, experience in the supervision of higher degree students.
