The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, announces a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship (1 January - 31 December 2004) in connection with the research project "Between the Laboratory, the Workshop and the Field – Chemistry around 1800” (Independent Research Group of Dr. Ursula Klein). The project investigates the relations between chemical experimentation, workshop traditions, and natural historical cultures around 1800. It aims at comparing the pluricentred chemical culture around 1800 with chemical technoscience developing in the second half of the nineteenth century. Applicants must have been awarded their doctorates before commencing the fellowship and be no further than five years beyond their Ph.D.s at the time of application. The stipend for applicants from abroad is 1900 to 2300 Euro per month, depending on the duration of previous scientific work. Women are encouraged to apply. Qualifications being equal, precedence will be given to candidates with disabilities.
