Up to five PhD studentships, available from September 2003 and with a
duration of three years, are now being offered in the Department of
Theatre, Film and Television, Aberystwyth. Applications are invited in
the fields of:
 
Film and/or Television Studies under the supervision of Professor Martin
Barker, Dr. Kevin Donnelly, Dr. Glen Creeber, Dr. Mikel Koven, Dr.
Ernest Mathijs, Professor Tom O’Malley and Professor Elan Closs
Stephens.
 
Drama and/or Theatre Studies under the supervision of Richard Gough, Dr.
Daniel Meyer-Dinkgrafe, Dr. David Ian Rabey, Professor Ioan Williams.
 
Performance Studies under the supervision of Richard Gough and Professor
Mike Pearson.
 
Welsh Language Theatre, Film and/or Television under the supervision of
Dr. Roger Owen and/or Professor Ioan Williams.
 
The successful candidates in any of these fields will be working in an
area with a strong research culture. The Department of Theatre, Film and
Television Studies, rated 5 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, is
the largest Department in the University and one of the largest
departments of Theatre, Film and Television Studies in the United
Kingdom and is currently expanding faster than any other Department in
the University of Wales as a whole. Recent developments in its teaching
provision have included new programmes in Scenography and new media.

These full-time studentships will include fees at the home student rate
and maintenance for three years. The level of the award is £9,000 p.a.
plus fees plus study allowance of £500 p.a. for research travel,
conferences etc. Candidates should have an MA and/or a good first
degree, plus some research experience in a relevant field of study.
Applicants will be asked to outline in detail their proposed research
project, and in awarding the studentships the panel will take into
account both the project’s inherent merit and its congruence with
existing research strengths within the department. For further details

Within the broad media fields, we welcome any well-conceived research
proposals. We do however have emergent research groupings: in the media
in Wales and minority language issues; in new forms of audience
research; in alternative and subaltern forms of cinema; in media and
gender identities, and and in new media.  Beyond these, as the
Department's web information shows, individuals have on-going research
interests in a wide range of topics
