We are delighted to announce that the Auckland Art Gallery won the Award
for Excellence in the Use of IT for Customer Service at last week's
Computerworld Excellence award ceremony. Held at Auckland's Sheraton
Hotel, the ceremony was attended by over 500 guests, including staff
from the Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland City Council and Vernon Systems'
Chris Callaghan. The Gallery won great acclaim for their Collection
Management and Access Programme, which begin with the acquisition of
Vernon as their new database. The process involved preparing a digital
image for every work, adding to the data held on each collection item in
Vernon, obtaining copyright clearances and creating the on-line
catalogue of the entire collection (using the Vernon Browser). The
catalogue can be viewed at the Auckland Art Gallery’s new-look website:

This is not the first accolade received by the Art Gallery for the
project. The May 2003 edition of Net Guide magazine named the new
Website “New Zealand website of the month”. The re-vamped website
recorded almost 70,000 visitors in the first two months on-line – a
clear indication of the high level of interest in the gallery and its
collections.

We are thrilled to have provided the technology underpinning this
exciting project, and look forward to celebrating future milestones in
partnership with the gallery.
