Audio material can create and enhance web content and provide a valuable
teaching resource when encoded and networked. Illustrating real uses, such
as libraries and archiving, lecturing and distance learning, this course
will give participants the technical and practical knowledge to handle audio
material successfully.

The day covers production and reuse of audio material, with sessions on:
* What is Web delivery?
* Content  -  Production & Reuse, Rights
* A Basic Introduction to Audio; revision on basic physics;
 analogue versus digital; digital terms and glossary
* Technology: Analogue formats, Digital formats
* What is a codec?; comparing codecs; which codec to choose
* Tools for compression; MPEG 3;  QuickTime;  REAL
* Compression; performing a compression, and workflow issues
* Storage;  Networking; Delivery
* Use   - Lecturing / Seminars
       - Library /Archive
       - Internet radio
       - Distance Learners
There is also time allotted for discussion and questions.

Intended audience: audio visual and computer service providers, librarians,
archivists.

Cost per person, per course, including light lunch and refreshments:
Full rate: GBP 136.17 (+ VAT); BUFVC member's discount rate: GBP 85.11 (+
VAT).
