CALL FOR PAPERS

The Western European Studies Section (WESS) of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) is planning an international conference to
coincide with the Salon du Livre in Paris.

"Migrations in society, culture, and the library"
Paris, France. March 22-26, 2004.

Keynote Speakers:               Roger Chartier, École des Hautes Études, Paris
                                Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink, Universität von Saarbrücken
                                        Friedrich Heckmann, Universität von Bamberg

Papers are invited in, but not limited to, the following areas:
·       borders and frontiers in the new Europe
·       the fate of culture(s) in the 21st century
·       orality and literacy in a computer age
·       the fate of the book
·       "migrations" in libraries
·       migration from text to image
·       literary migrations into other disciplines
·       migrations from print to digital, bricks-and-mortar to virtual


Papers can be in English or French; simultaneous translations will be available. Please send panel proposals and paper abstracts (300 words max) addressing the paper's theme and conclusion, along with a short biographical note to:
