Dear Melanie Some years ago a very clever temp wrote an Access database for us for managing our journals, particularly for auditing missing issues, recording requests from duplicates lists etc. However it only covers print journals. It would be possible to modify it to include some information about electronic access, though. The actual database design isn't particularly sophisticated; the skill was in the interface programming. I can let you have a copy if you like - it isn't copyright or anything. At the moment I keep records of electronic journals in a huge HTML table. I have long tinkered with the idea of turning this into a proper database - apparently one can export HTML tables into Excel, and then export the resulting spreadsheet into Access as a table.... The database design issue I think with e-journals is around what one uses as a primary key. Given that print and e-versions often have different ISSNs, how does one link the two for a particular title...? cheers Catherine Visit our web site at http://stlis.thenhs.com/hln/s_london/lsw/main/ or our intranet pages (accessible within SLAM) at http://192.168.175.60/library/main/index.htm Catherine Ebenezer Multidisciplinary Library South London and Maudsley NHS Trust 108 Landor Road Stockwell London SW9 9NT 020 7411 6164 020 7411 6301 fax Faciendi multos libros nullus est finis -----Original Message----- From: Brocklehurst, Melanie [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 07 January 2003 16:24 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Managing subscriptions Has anyone used or set up an Access database to manage their journals collection - print as well as electronic - to enable management of URL changes, changes in holdings, etc, in a single location? If so, would you be willing to share your experience and/or expertise with someone who is struggling to get their head round what's needed? Many thanks, in advance, for any help.
