I had asked colleagues in Spain to inquire about IP access to El Pais.
As you can see in the letter below from the University of Alicante, this
is not an option at this time. They are experiecing the same
frustrations that we and our users have encountered.

INFORMACION SOBRE EL ACCESO A EL PAIS.ES
Ante el cambio en la política de acceso a la versión electrónica de EL
PAIS, desde el Sibid se vienen realizando gestiones para llevar a cabo
una suscripción de tipo institucional. Estas gestiones han sido, hasta
el momento, infructuosas ya que, aunque en la información de su página
web ofrecen la posibilidad de suscripciones corporativas, no permiten
suscripciones por reconocimiento de direcciones IPs ni accesos a
usuarios simultáneos.
El acceso que ofertan es mediante claves personales distintas para cada
usuario. Con este modelo de acceso el usuario debería conocer todas las
claves de acceso asignadas a cada una de las cuentas y comprobar que en
ellas no existe ningún otro usuario conectado.
Esta situación está provocando quejas de todas las instituciones y
organismos que necesitamos ofrecer este servicio, por lo que seguimos
realizando las gestiones oportunas confiando en que la empresa PRISA se
plantee modificar la política de acceso a este recurso.
