School of Environmental Sciences University of East Anglia Norwich, UK Research Officer Social Science for the Environment, Virtual Reality and Experimental Laboratories (SSEVREL) Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research Applications are invited for a Research Officer post in the 5* rated School of Environmental Sciences to work with Dr Andrew Lovett, Professor Ian Bateman, Dr Andy Jones and other faculty members. The post is available for 3 years (in the first instance), from March 2003 to help initiate, maintain, and facilitate research use of the SSEVREL facilities in the new Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research. The successful candidate must possess sufficient computing expertise to help maintain the SSEVREL equipment, and would ideally have experience of using visualisation software and the design of computer-administered questionnaires. Knowledge of a programming language such as Visual Basic, the development of web pages, statistical analysis methods or geographical information systems (GIS) would also be relevant. An appropriate background in social sciences (e.g. with the ability to organise decision making experiments or run focus groups) would be advantageous. Good organisational skills, confidence in interacting with a wide range of people, an ability to work independently, and the capacity to make an immediate contribution to the development of SSEVREL are essential. We anticipate that the successful applicant will have a relevant postgraduate degree (preferably a PhD), but will consider other candidates who can demonstrate a particularly appropriate background. Salary will be on the Research Grade II scale up to £28,498 (dependent on experience).
