Job Vacancy-Projects/Programme Manager-Public Sector Projects
London Location but travel and time away expected
Salary negotiable around £35K


This varied role will involve assisting the team manager and project managing individual contracts with Central Government Departments, Government Agencies and Local Government. The position is within a new and expanding team in one of the UK's largest environmental consultancies.

Applicants should hold a relevant postgraduate degree/qualification and around 5 years experience in the application of geographic information to the public sector.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of current environmental policy and how geographic information is used to aid decision making.  A clear understanding of GI industry initiatives and policies, at UK and European level, and their impact on the environmental sector is also essential.

Candidates should be competent in the use and management of projects using MapInfo Professional, ArcView or ArcGIS and associated extensions.  A proven track record of successful project management and staff supervision is also essential, along with a high quality technical report writing capability and exceptional interpersonal skills

Previous programme or project management experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

* Geodatabase management using 3rd party middleware and Oracle or SQL servers
* Sourcing, assessing and negotiating access to datasets
* OS products and licensing/partnering arrangements, including OS MasterMap
* Spatial, 3D and network analysis
* Managing data capture programmes
* Managing GIS user requirement and implementation programmes
* Delivering training
* Managing system and application development in MapInfo or ESRI environments
* Internet mapping development
* Cartographic map production
* Business development skills, including a good understanding of the industry where specialist skills apply, a comprehensive portfolio of key contacts, and the ability to communicate ideas and concepts to all levels.
