Am also wondering if there might be some resurfacing of characters relating

to Izumi Kyoka's story, The Saint of Mount Kyoka..

 

I noticed this recently watching Miike's Gozu / Yakuza Horror Theatre

which has two characters which roughly parallel (or distortedly echo perhaps) the characters of the strange old/young woman and her

retarded brother/husband? Not sure if there is a film made directly from Kyoka's original story

but feel there must be.. Would love to know the title if anyone happens to know it,

or any films made from Kyoka's stories..
