Omar-- This is one of my favorite themes. Antonioni, I think, is the master of the void, so to speak. (Look at the final minutes of ``L'Eclisse'' for perhaps cinema's ultimate expression of the tension and drama of emptiness.) Some of Michael Snow's work can be read in a ``nothingness'' angle. New masters are Tsai Ming-liang, Carlos Reygadas and Apitchatpong Weerasethakul, aka Joe. Jarmusch has a marvellous affinity, via Beckett, for the paradox of the frame ``filled'' with emptiness.
