This is one of my favorite themes. Antonioni, I think, is the master of the
void, so to speak. (Look at the final minutes of ``L'Eclisse'' for perhaps
cinema's ultimate expression of the tension and drama of emptiness.) Some of
Michael Snow's work can be read in a ``nothingness'' angle. New masters are
Tsai Ming-liang, Carlos Reygadas and Apitchatpong Weerasethakul, aka Joe.
Jarmusch has a marvellous affinity, via Beckett, for the paradox of the
frame ``filled'' with emptiness.
