Martha-- Given your needs for ``Brighton Rock,'' which is available--as so many great titles--in Region 2 (Europe, Japan) but not Region 1 (North America), it might be a good time for you to consider getting a region-free DVD player. These used to not only be really expensive (over $600), but usually required specially configured monitors to accept PAL and SECAM. No more. As happens with technology, prices have plummeted, and your current monitor can accept these machines. I've seen items on the Web for quality players priced as low as $180. It's really become essential, I think, for the cinephile, film critic, professor, etc., to consider getting a region-free system. A gander at the fabulous ``Masters of Cinema'' website also provides an indication of how having a region-free players expands one's accessibility to world cinema at the finger's touch. Just Google, and you'll find plenty of choices out there. (I have a system by Malata.) Robert Koehler
