How about Herzog's _Heart of Glass_? -- technically no one is in a coma but you could argue that the whole city is in a coma from which they will not awaken.  (As most of you probably know, Herzog famously hypnotized all of the actors in this film -- with I think one exception of the "prophet" but you wouldn't know that he wasn't under just to watch him -- so that they walk around and speak as if they were in a kind of comatose state.)

A remarkable and bizarre film.
