Truffaut's The Story of Adele H. contains scenes of Isabelle Adjani having nightmares regarding her sister's death by drowning.

 

This is, of course, before the time period suggested, but there is that famous scene in Leave Her to Heaven in which Gene Tierney allows her disabled brother-in-law to drown.
