Just a footnote to the exchange between Ross and Sukhbir about coverage of the aftermath of war. Although one would hope that journalists would see and seek beyond staged and framed spectacle, it seems naive to consider them in the same bracket as historiographers. Everything depends on which journalist(s), where they're from, and which publication they're filming/writing for, but can the same ethical standards expected of (academic?) history-writers be generally extended to the media? Seems over-optimistic to me, after a conflict which has marked some sort of new stage in the media's relationship to war, even if what's new is still being reflected on. Kate
