Dear Colleague,

UK-based researchers, and those with an interest in and
knowledge of social science research and research methods
in the UK, are invited to contribute to a consultation on the
development of methods research and training. This can be done
by completing the questionnaire at

http://www.s3ri.soton.ac.uk/ncrm/.

Background:
To develop the quality and range of methodological skills
and techniques used by the UK social science community, the
ESRC is establishing a National Centre for Research Methods
(NCRM). The Centre will be co-ordinated from the University of
Southampton and include a number of specialized sub-centres
 across the country. The Centre's
first priority is to consult the UK social science community over the
shape of its research and training programme. This consultation will
inform the strategic direction of the Centre as well as the
commissioning of the sub-centres. Further details can be found at
the website below.

We would be pleased if you were willing and able
to participate in the consultation by completing the
 questionnaire no later than 19
January 2004. We apologise for the tight deadline for this
consultation, which is outside of our control.

Please forward this message to any of your colleagues or other
contacts whom you think would be interested in contributing.

With regards

Chris Skinner, Sue Heath, Grainne Conole and David Martin
