Hi all,

I'm fitting different hierarchical models in WINBUGS and I'd like to use the DIC statistic to find the best one.
But for all the models I have negative values for Dbar and Dhat for example as following:

        Dbar             Dhat             pD                    DIC

y -11232.2    -26721.5    15489.2    4257.0

tot -11232.2   -26721.5    15489.2    4257.0

Has anybody experience of negative values for Dbar and Dhat?

And what is the correct interpretation for a positive DIC, even if I have negative values of these parameters? Because pD is positive and very large I have thought of an overparametrised problem. Could it be right?

Thanks in advance

Marta Blangiardo
