It will also aid librarians seeking to reference programmes and clips for use in teaching. The day covers: * Introduction to film and television collections in the UK * Information sources and services * Searching the Web for film and television sources - databases, gateways, footage sources, videotape and DVD sources, streamed and downloadable media, Education Media OnLine. * Copyright and Third Party Content * The characteristics of film and videotape - film gauges and components; videotape formats; DVDs; screenings and demonstrations. * Film Research from a professional perspective Guest Speaker: Tony Dalton, film researcher. The Council has close links with film and television archives, and produces the Researcher's Guide Online and The Researcher's Guide: Film, Television, Radio & Related Documentation Collections in the UK. It also holds the databases of the MAP-TV Guide to European Film and Television Collections, the British Universities Newsfilm Database, the HERMES database of educational audio-visual materials, and the Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching. Participants will be free to ask the BUFVC staff for assistance with specific enquiries and will be able to explore the Councilšs Library and Information Service. Intended audience: film scholars, librarians and audio visual support staff, film researchers and archivists.
