The PRO is at the forefront of the drive to make the nation's memory and
culture available to the widest possible audience.

An opportunity has arisen for an Editor to work at the cutting edge of the
provision of automated access to the archives of England by joining the
Access to Archives (A2A) central team. Main responsibilities will include
checking catalogues for conformance to description and indexing standards,
marking up, editing in EAD, liaison with software developers and provision
of training and guidance to colleagues in local record offices, libraries
and museums. 

You should be a qualified, or experienced, archivist with experience of
cataloguing in an automated environment. Excellent interpersonal and
teamworking skills are essential as are good communication skills. Knowledge
of archival description standards, such as ISAD(G), and of EAD are also
essential. It is desirable that you have some experience of training and of
producing content for the World Wide Web. 
 
The post is a fixed term appointment until the 31 March 2004, with the
possibility of extension and/or permanency. Applications for secondments are
