The department is responsible for managing the modern records of News International as well as its historical archive which includes the archives of all the titles published by the company, although the main collections relate to The Times newspaper and date from the late 18th century to the present. The main responsibility of the post is the administration of the company's Contracts Management System where accurate report writing and an ability to communicate with all levels of management is crucial. The successful applicant will also be expected to play a full role in both records management and archive work which includes undertaking research projects, cataloguing work, modern records processing as well as answering enquiries and reading room supervision. The archivists also write regular articles for the "From the Archive" feature on Times Online. The department uses Calm 2000, Basis and SAP software and the appointee should possess a reasonable level of computer literacy, though training will be given where necessary.
