There seems to have been absolute silence on this point.  Am a right in thinking that Essex was one of the first county record offices - certainly one on which many others were based?  Have Resource (surely Vic Gray is interested), NAC and the National Archives responded in any way?  Is there any kind of campaign or has the archive/local history community decided that there is no need to have someone senior in this position? Or, is everyone on holiday?

Best wishes

Historic post axed in savings quest
July 17, 2003 05:19
COST cutting councillors have axed a prestigious and historic post
as they try to save millions of taxpayers' money.
A decision by Essex County Council to end the 65-year-old role of
the county archivist was made behind closed doors earlier this
month.
