We welcome contributions from any of the following fields: languages, linguistics and discourse analysis, media and communication studies, film and theatre studies, business studies, literary criticism, anthropology, psychology, education, and cultural and area studies." Description "The aim of the 2003 IALIC conference is to sharpen thinking on the intercultural narrrative as the main object of analysis. ‘Narrative’ implies story-telling, a form of communication whose role in life today seems ever more prominent, whether it be in psychological therapy, business training and evaluation, diary writing, autobiography, reportage or advertising. ‘Intercultural narrative’ invites reflection on the aesthetic form and pragmatic function of texts which transcend or transgress linguistic, cultural and generic boundaries. The conference will seek to identify and define the properties of the intercultural narrative in what is commonly described as a ‘post-colonial’ or ‘multi-cultural’ world. Has the intercultural narrative always existed? Is it the product of recent political, historical and cultural developments? The aim of conference is both to reconsider concepts, review practices and develop strategies, and to reflect on the empirical reality of language in intercultural communication. Our concerns are as much with practical analysis as they are with theoretical definition." Deadlines DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: 1st September 2003. The deadline for early registration is 1st October 2003.
