Dear Colleagues, this is the second announcement and call for papers for the 24th Biennial Conference of the Society for Multivariate Analysis in the Behavioral Sciences (SMABS). The conference will be held at the University of Jena, Germany on July 18-21, 2004. ORGANIZATION The conference is organized by the Department of Methodology and Evaluation Research of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena. OBJECTIVE The objective of this conference is to present recent developments and stimulate discussion among researchers in the field of quantitative methodology for the social and behavioral as well as educational and econometric sciences. You are invited to present papers on both theoretical developments and applications of statistical or data-analytical methods in the fields mentioned above. The program will include invited keynote lectures, symposia, individual paper presentations, poster sessions and software presentations as well as social events. Members of the local and scientific committee will select abstracts (max. 300 words, including keywords and references) submitted by January 15, 2004. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS Abstracts can be submitted via the conference website (http://www.smabs.org) in the section ''Program'' > ''Submit Abstracts''. Deadline for the submission of abstracts is January, 15th, 2004. INVITED SPEAKERS A number of excellent researchers have accepted an invitation to hold a keynote address or organize a symposium, among them Peter Bentler (UCLA, USA), Linda Collins (PennState, USA), Michael Eid (University of Geneve, Switzerland), John Graham (PennState, USA), Joop Hox (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands), Karl Joereskog (University of Uppsala, Sweden), Robert Mislevy (University of Maryland, USA), José Muñiz (University of Oviedo, Spain), Donald Rubin (Harvard University, USA), Tamas Rudas (Eotvos Lorand University, Hungary), Theodore Walls (PennState, USA) and Mark Wilson (UC Berkeley, USA). WORKSHOPS Two pre- and two post-conference workshops will be held on July, 17th and July, 22nd, respectively. Topics will be Structural Equation Modeling with EQS 6 (Peter Bentler; UCLA, USA), Causality (Donald Rubin; Harvard University, USA), Latent Class Regression (Jeroen Vermunt; University of Tilburg, The Netherlands) and ConQuest 2.0 (Mark Wilson; UC Berkeley, USA). SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PARTICIPANTS FROM EASTERN EUROPE We may be able to offer financial support to a limited number of participants from Eastern Europe.
